Tech & Security
Encryption Standard
Bravar uses AES-256-GCM for file encryption with a full 128-bit authentication tag, ensuring data integrity and confidentiality.
Key Derivation
Encryption keys are derived from your master password using PBKDF2 with SHA-256 and 100,000 iterations. A unique salt is used per file.
Future-proofing: Bravar stores version info into the metadata so switching to stronger derivation will not break old files.
Zero-Knowledge Design
Everything stays on your computer — no files, password, or keys are uploaded, synced, or shared with anyone.
Frequently Asked Questions
A locked file is a special file created by Bravar when you protect something. It keeps the original file safely encrypted along with the information needed to unlock it later. This ensures your data stays secure until you choose to access it.
No. Each file is protected with its own unique, randomly generated key. Your master password is used only to unlock the keys for those files.
There’s no way to recover it. Without your master password, your files cannot be unlocked.
A .brava
file is a backup of your unique encryption data. When you first set your master password, Bravar creates random data (not tied to your computer) that is later used to generate the encryption keys for your files.
Unfortunately, the .brava
file is useless without the master password. Both are required to unlock your files.
